{"id":3009,"date":"2026-10-10T07:36:48","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T07:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whmnews.ir\/En\/?p=3009"},"modified":"2026-10-10T07:37:17","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T07:37:17","slug":"us-fda-approves-asahi-kaseis-drug-for-persistent-herpes-infections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whmnews.ir\/En\/index.php\/2026\/10\/10\/us-fda-approves-asahi-kaseis-drug-for-persistent-herpes-infections\/","title":{"rendered":"US FDA approves Asahi Kasei&#8217;s drug for persistent herpes infections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>US FDA approves Asahi Kasei&#8217;s drug for persistent herpes infections<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The US FDA on Friday approved Japan&#8217;s Asahi Kasei&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/3407.T\">(3407.T), opens new tab<\/a> drug for persistent herpes simplex virus \u200bsores in certain patients with weakened immune systems \u200cwho have not responded to available antiviral treatments.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The oral drug, called pritelivir, was developed by German drugmaker Aicuris, which \u200bAsahi Kasei acquired in April<\/li>\n<li>Pritelivir blocks proteins \u200bthe herpes virus needs to copy its genetic \u2060material, stopping it from multiplying and allowing the \u200bdrug to work against some infections resistant to \u200bolder treatments<\/li>\n<li>Older first-line drugs must be activated by a viral enzyme before blocking replication, and mutations that disrupt this activation \u200bcan cause resistance<\/li>\n<li>The US Food and Drug Administration&#8217;s \u200bapproval was based on a late-stage trial involving 101 participants, in \u200cwhich \u2060sores healed completely within 28 days in 62.7% of patients who were given pritelivir, compared to 34% receiving other treatments<\/li>\n<li>The trial compared pritelivir with doctors&#8217; \u200bchoice of \u200bintravenous foscarnet, the \u2060main approved alternative, or cidofovir and imiquimod \u2014 older medicines used off-label<\/li>\n<li>The commonly \u200breported side effects in the trial included \u200bheadache, \u2060diarrhea, nausea, reduced appetite, vomiting and dizziness<\/li>\n<li>Asahi Kasei had previously estimated pritelivir could serve about 15,000 US patients \u2060with \u200bweakened immune systems, and generate \u200bpeak annual sales of more than $400 million in the mid-to-late 2030s<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US FDA approves Asahi Kasei&#8217;s drug for persistent herpes infections The US FDA on Friday approved Japan&#8217;s Asahi Kasei&#8217;s (3407.T), opens new tab drug for persistent herpes simplex virus \u200bsores in certain patients with weakened immune systems \u200cwho have not responded to available antiviral treatments.
