Daily Vitamin B3 Intake Reduces Inflammation in COPD Patients
A new study indicates that regular consumption of nicotinamide riboside, commonly known as vitamin B3, can significantly reduce inflammation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
COPD is a chronic condition that leads to inflammation and swelling in the airways, causing ongoing lung damage, impaired breathing, and reduced quality of life. The disease is typically triggered by exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, fumes, dust, or chemicals and manifests in two primary forms: emphysema, which damages the air sacs in the lungs, and chronic bronchitis, characterized by persistent coughing and mucus production.
According to the research conducted by scientists from the University of Copenhagen and Bispebjerg Hospital, vitamin B3 intake can reduce inflammatory biomarkers in COPD patients by up to 63%. The findings were published in the journal Nature Aging.
