Reduce Stress and Improve Mood by Looking at Flowers

Reduce Stress and Improve Mood by Looking at Flowers

Spring is here, and looking at flowers is not only pleasant but also has health benefits. According to several studies, looking at flowers during times of stress can reduce negative emotions, reduce high blood pressure and cortisol levels, and increase emotional resilience.

In a study by researchers at Rutgers University, women who were given flowers had a better mood for three days; and people 55 and older who received flowers also experienced better mood and memory.

Finding beauty and moments of wonder in everyday life by paying attention to the flowers and plants around them can help people stay healthy. So, make walking part of your daily routine, and as you walk through parks and public green spaces, take the time to admire the beauty of car flowers sprouting in the most unlikely places, like cracks in the sidewalk.

Often overlooked in our rush to get to our destination, these beautiful scenes carry a profound message of resilience and healing; observations that turn walking into a meditative journey, strengthening the body and calming the mind.
