World Anti-Doping Agency Investigates the Effects of Repeated Carbon Monoxide Inhalation

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has stated that the use of carbon monoxide-containing respiratory devices to measure blood factors should not impact athletes’ performance. However, the agency is currently investigating the effects of repeated inhalation of this gas.

Carbon monoxide-containing respiratory devices are used to assess athletes’ hemoglobin levels, a key indicator of their physical capabilities. However, concerns have been raised that repeated inhalation of carbon monoxide could enhance athletic performance by increasing oxygen uptake. This potential impact is now under examination by WADA.
