USDA to invest up to $100 million in bird flu research
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Thursday that it will invest up to $100 million in research projects on bird flu drugs and vaccines.
The bird flu outbreak has killed 170 million laying hens and turkeys since 2022 and has sent egg prices soaring in recent months, largely due to supply constraints.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the country will start importing more eggs from South Korea. South Korea joins Turkey and Brazil among other countries that export eggs to the United States as part of the Trump administration’s push to lower egg prices.
